The Unshared Rules of God

When you have studied the Bible for a while, you may start to realize that there are some rules by which God constrains Himself to abide by which have never been revealed to us in Scripture. You can infer their presence and possibly even infer their content. I would like to show you two and write about the implications. Both have to do with interactions with the Kingdom of Satan.

The first is this:

And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison

Revelation 20:7 (ESV)

There is much to ponder and interpret in this short sentence. What is the 1000 years? What is Satan’s prison and how does it limit his work? I would like to ponder this question: Why? You have him , why release him? It doesn’t do mankind any favors?

Maybe the answer is this: mankind doesn’t deserve any more relief than this. It would seem though that Satan managed near impunity for his rebellion all the way up to the victory of Christ on the cross. Why would he deserve any relief?

There is certainly some unspoken rule working here. It appears that Satan is a rebellious cherubim. See my article on this here: https://afterdeathsite.com/2025/10/28/what-is-satan/ I do not believe that Satan was too strong to be kicked out of Heaven, or too strong to be put into “prison”, or too strong to be removed permanently from the Earth now. Perhaps there is some grace offered him because of the nature of his being a cherubim. It is not as good as the grace offered mankind. Adam and Eve rebelled but they may have done it out of naivety. Or maybe the rest of us get pity in part because we inherit sinful nature. Whatever the reason, Satan’s presence or his power or his posse still exercise considerable influence here on Earth. Our sin-driven grief is likely not the product of human corruption alone.

What about Satan’s posse, the demonic horde? I have no idea or intel on how many beings this constitutes. Jesus encountered them routinely. There still are documented occurrences now, though I don’t think it is as common as some think it is. The Bible seems to imply that the percentage of fallen angels is about one-third.(Revelation 12:4). But what does that mean in numbers? Some seem to not have landed here (Jude 6). What are we dealing with and why are we dealing with it? There is this snippet.

29 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”

Matthew 8:29 (ESV)

Why do they get to roam free until “the time”? What is the time? Judgment Day? There seems to be a rule in play. Maybe it is like a treaty.

Human beings have enough problems just dealing with our own inherited sinful nature. Our selfishness, greed, resistance to God, tendency to go with whatever gives pleasure, and more causes our society much trouble. But does sinful nature explain the murderous slaughter going on in Sudan, the horrifying actions of drug cartels, the insane destruction of life in the war in Ukraine, not to mention the horror of Hitler, Stalin, Kim Jong-un, Mao, and many others? I don’t think so. I think it is human nature driven forward and held together by Satanic- demonic assistance.

Why not overthrow such people, movements, and spiritual evil sooner? Why leave the latter at all? I infer that there are certain rules at play and God is unwilling to bend or suspend these rules. Still I keep asking.

We can infer one rule that is somewhat expressed in God’s revealed law. The rule is that nothing in rebellion against God can spend eternity with God. All sin has its time. No more. That rule would bring us all down to Hell, but God in His mercy found a way to keep the Law and still save many people. It wasn’t done with a wave of God’s hand. He didn’t do it because He could. The Father had Jesus become a human–permanently. Jesus fulfilled the Law perfectly as required by God. He then absorbed a part of the condemnation demanded by the Law that we couldn’t absorb, which is our spiritual death. Jesus was forsaken, damned, for us. We then are connected to Christ via baptism. Our cognitive faith is created by the Holy Spirit getting through to us either before baptism or after it. This costly procedure allowed God to keep the Law and save people.

25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:25-26 (NIV)

To be “just” (i.e. keep the Law) and the one who justifies (allows us to keep the Law through a connection to Jesus). Did God’s plan of salvation circumvent His Law? No. Could the unrevealed laws mentioned above be changed in their outcome in some clever way? It is hard to say without knowing the reasons for their existence and terms of agreement. In the story quoted above from Matthew, Jesus cast the demons out the man and into a heard of pigs which quickly drowned themselves. I don’t think it rid the world of the demons, just the pigs.

I don’t expect to know all that has went on in Heaven. I’m not even sure of the extent of the impact that Kingdom of Satan has on Earth. I know from Scripture of its existence. The rest is speculative or anecdotal. Still, it is a significant part of my prayers.
